MY PURPLE PANTS

Growing up in an alcoholic family mental, physical, spiritual and sexual abuse was the daily lot for Samantha in her childhood and teenage years. Neglect, blame and rejection by dysfunctional and abusive parents were normal for young Sam. A school classmate and her Christian family offered some respite and other niceties of life from an out-of-control situation. A few families from the local Christian community were also supportive throughout the years.
my purple pants is Samantha’s testimony to the love and presence of God in her darkest moments. The book is also testimony to the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. There are many traumatic and impossible situations in Samantha’s adult life before she reaches rock bottom. Her husband, Peter, deserves special mention for his faithfulness to Scripture and the Word of God and his ability to keep on keeping on when all seemed hopeless.
As I read I often asked ‘How much more, Lord? How much more can the human spirit tolerate?’ my purple pants is a book that brings hope to all who suffer the pain of childhood abuse. The book highlighted the lack of trained counsellors who were able to help Sam come to the place that she is in today.

There are two distinct sections to this story: the first tells of a young girl who experiences a distressingly abusive childhood and adolescence, and the second uplifting part relates to the healing she experiences later in life. She gains confidence from her talisman pair of purple pants, but more importantly, from her husband and friends who teach her about God’s loving care. A compelling account that offers hope to those who suffer childhood abuse. Check out the related website: www.mypurplepants.com.au/index.htm . NS

Abused, bullied, cursed and traumatised from early childhood, it is a miracle that Samantha Jackel is alive, sane and healthy. It is all due to the gracious deliverance and healing power of Jesus Christ, and the patient, obedient and loving ministry of her husband, Peter. WN
