THRIVE MAY-JULY 2010: ROMANS- BACK TO THE FUTURE
Matthew Jacoby
HSM Publishing
It can take quite some mental effort to get one’s mind around the concepts outlined by St Paul in his letter to the Romans. In a pocket sized quarterly devotional (in the Thrive series), Matthew Jacoby’s gentle expository voice is combined with Deborah Lynn’s weekend summaries. Each brief dissertation concludes with one or more suggested Bible readings and a reflective challenge. While it is designed to be used as a daily devotional, it could readily form the basis for a group study, perhaps in conjunction with the Sons of Korah’s reading of “Romans: The Unofficial Soundtrack.” This Australasian series has so far has featured Psalms and Genesis with .more books of the Bible in the pipeline. This is a simple devotional, similar to Daily Bread, based on the book of Romans. It would be especially suitable for teenagers, or new Christians. WN

There are many daily devotionals to choose from on the shelves of Christian bookstores so why choose Thrive above any other devotional?
The copy I received for review was written by the multi-talented Dr. Matthew Jacoby. Matthew is an evangelical pastor who is also the founding member of the psalmist group — the Sons of Korah. But I believe that his main gift lies in his ability to convey the Scriptures in ways that are both easy to read and understand. This is his core passion and this he does in simple yet profound ways.
Every day contains a daily challenge to live life as God intended and if you thinking of changing your daily devotional or if you are about to begin this discipline you can do not better than to feed you spirit with a daily reading and meditation from Thrive.
