Mary Hawkins Baragula series
JUSTICE AT BARAGULA
Mary Hawkins
Ark House Press
Life at Baragula is never dull and once again Mary Hawkins has produced an exciting novel with all our old friends as the key players. She writes a mystery where God, romance, small town gossip, murder, intrigue and revenge are skilfully interwoven to make a very readable story.
Mary Hawkins knows outback Australia and the Baragula series speaks to the heart of her readers. Brad Hunter is an underprivileged boy who makes good and returns to Baragula as a much respected police constable. Madeline Honeysuckle is a formerly happy young woman who now guards a closely kept secret. Read Justice at Baragula and be prepared to journey with them on an exciting and often bumpy trip.
This book should appeal to anyone who loves God, a romance and an intriguing mystery all in the one book. DS
RETURN TO BARAGULA

Mary Hawkins has written a lively entertaining book that captivates the reader both with the story and by the Biblical truths of repentance and forgiveness that hold the story together.
Return to Baragula is a refreshing novel of romance, intrigue and the complexities of life in a small New South Wales town.
Emily Parker is the daughter of missionary parents who meets her best friend’s gorgeous brother, Matthew Davidson, on Schoolies Week at the Gold Coast. What happens on that week is a secret that Emily keeps until they accidentally meet again six years later.
Mary Hawkins’ novel is wholesome reading that leaves the reader with a sense that despite pain and suffering all is well in the world.
I found Return to Baragula hard to put aside even for essential chores and I look forward with eager anticipation to reading the next in the series - Outback from Baragula.

OUTBACK FROM BARAGULA
Mary Hawkins
Ark House Press
In Outback from Baragula Mary Hawkins captures the spirit of the outback. Twins Jillian and John Davidson embody the fortitude and moral fibre, the strength and courage, the versatility and fortitude of all who inhabit the western red plains of New South Wales.
Davidson Downs is definitely outback from Baragula. Baragula’s doctor is Matthew Davidson, an older brother of the twins, and when he gives each of them a thoroughbred horse for their birthday little does anyone realise what lies ahead, especially for his friend Steve Honeysuckle who delivers the horses. Against his better judgment and a decision to stand firm, Steve finds himself falling more deeply in love with the independent, resourceful and beautiful Jillian.
Outback from Baragula is a novel set in 21st century Australia with all the intrigue of past centuries. However modern transport in all its forms takes much of the aloneness out of the isolation. A strong Biblical Christian theme is woven throughout the novel.
When you next buy a gift for yourself or someone else, you can hardly do better than to purchase Outback from Baragula. Since reading the book I have a much greater respect for all who live in those vast outback plains and my life has been enriched by having entered into the world of Jillian and John Davidson.

Nurse Emily Parker returns to her home town Baragula in the Hunter Valley. Here she is forced to face some old demons – a teenage pregnancy, a former boyfriend, a friend's suicide and the loss of her Christian faith. Added to the mix are mental illness, a meningitis outbreak and a flood. What a refreshing treat to find a romantic story that has a realistic Australian setting, a believable plot and an even-handed Christian testimony. An enthralling read is guaranteed. Keep an eye open for the sequels Outback from Baragula and Justice at Bragula. NS
RETURN TO BARAGULA

Emily made a mistake six years before, allowing her feelings to get the better of her principles and allowing Matthew to seduce her. The results were heartbreaking and far-reaching. Her relationship with her parents was severely strained, old friends turned on her and she found herself alone with two small children. Along the way her faith weakened and slowly faded into the background. Now, back in Baragula, she’s brought face to face with her past, including Matthew who has since found a deep relationship with the Lord. Hawkins gives us three dimensional characters, a page-turning plot and an important insight into the power of forgiveness. WN
OUTBACK FROM BARAGULA

In the sequel to Return to Baragula Hawkins takes us to Matthew’s home property and the desperate situation facing his sister, Jillian and brother, John. When cattle thieves strike, an old friend, Steve – someone to whom Jillian is deeply attracted – fortuitously arrives to help. Unfortunately, although he seems just as drawn to her, he has a strange idea that they can’t have a relationship because he’s a Christian and she isn’t. Once more Hawkins has given us an engaging story with likeable characters. One hopes this isn’t the last in the Baragula series. WN
