Dancing with the seasons reviews
DANCING WITH THE SEASONS
Juliet Batten
Ishtar Books
This is an interesting and beautifully written book about the need for resilience in life, and aligning the flow of our lives with the natural cycle of the seasons. It is well-researched and written with a poetic cadence and a respect for different cultures. The author refers to the “Christ story” in a way that suggests it is on a par with myths from other cultures: eg Persephone, Ceres and the harvest gods of Europe. WN
DANCING WITH THE SEASONS: INSPIRATION AND RESILIENCE THROUGH TIMES OF CHANGE
Juliet Batten
Ishtar Books
The author uses the seasons as a focus for motivation of the spirit. She considers not only the ‘outer’ seasons (summer, autumn, winter, spring) but also the ‘inner’ seasons of a person’s soul. She divides each season into three phases: early, middle and late. The meditations draw upon Maori, Celtic, Anglo-Saxon and Christian cultures. Each is jam-packed with material: introductory quotations, seasonal commentary and illustrations, suggested tasks, reflective questions, exercises for inner listening, detailed endnotes, and companion stories and poems.
