GRACE VS ‘SELF-ESTEEM’
Brett Glover
In2grace Ministries
If you read Grace vs Self-Esteem and your life and attitudes remain unchanged I suggest that you take a quiet weekend off and read it all again.
Brett Glover has written a book that deserves to be on the ‘must-read’ list and, in my view, mandatory reading for parents, teachers and pastors. Grace vs Self-Esteem is divided into three sections:
- Self-esteem or God-esteem
- Self-confidence or God-confidence
- Self-made or God-made.
Each of the fourteen chapters begins with what I really believe is a Holy Spirit inspired parable where one can see clearly why grace and self esteem are in tension. The book goes on to challenge both secular and church wisdom that has developed over the past fifty years throughout the western world in relation to ‘positive reinforcement’ practices. I found some of Glover’s well documented statistics to be alarming but I have no doubt about the accuracy.
How late is too late for the changes that are needed in individual lives as well as society as a whole to be effective? Read the book and decide for yourself but one thing is certain - we do nothing at our peril.

GRACE V SELF-ESTEEM
Brett Glover
In2Grace Ministries
Glover believes that with its emphasis on positive reinforcement, developing self-esteem and its elevation of undeserving heroes, the world is sliding further and further into moral decay. He teaches that true self-worth is found in the underserved, all-embracing grace of God. His premise is that the propagation of the self-esteem ethic is the foundation for all of the worlds’ ills. This may be a simplistic view, yet he makes some interesting observations and supports his arguments from scripture. WN
