Bailey's Crossing

BAILEY’S CROSSING: AN AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK STORY
Jeff Townsend
HSM Publishing

Scott Brooks is a 21 year old secondary teacher fresh out of university. His challenging first teaching appointment is at Bailey’s Crossing Regional High School in outback Australia. Even before he arrives in the town his troubles begin. Then on arrival he has an immediate encounter with Mayor Bill Harden. Bill is Bailey’s Crossing—he owns, controls and manipulates almost every business in the town and the council is his puppet, usually in ways that benefit his businesses.

Scott, with the help of a small band of Christians, quickly realises that evil abounds in the town and that Harden is at the centre of all that is wrong with the community. He sets about finding out the truth, a path which brings him in direct conflict with the mayor. Scott and his friends are soon in serious danger but after many twists in the plot, good triumphs over evil.

This is a (mostly) fast moving tale of adventure, mystery, crime, principles and even a touch of romance.

BAILEYS CROSSING
Jeff Townsend
HSM Publishing

The Australian outback town of Baileys Crossing has long been controlled and owned by an evil mayor and property owner. He manipulates and dominates his crony, the local police sergeant, and is driven by greed and a push for ever-increasing power.

It is a classic story of good vs evil and makes clear that ‘evil flourishes when good people do nothing’. Intrigue, cunning plots, interwoven schemes and even murder are all part and parcel of life in Baileys Crossing. No one is able to challenge or confront Mayor Bill Harden without risk to their own life and property. No one, that is, until young Scott Brooks, the new high school teacher, comes to town and things start to really hot up.

A small group of Christians unite to defeat overwhelming odds and, even though they are convinced that God is on their side, they experience many setbacks.

Baileys Crossing is an action packed novel set in the central west of New South Wales. I found the conversational language a little out of character at times but nevertheless the book is an easy-to-read rattling good yarn.
