Please email info@omegawriters.com if you are interested to nominate yourself or others for a position on the Omega Writers’ leadership team.
April 3, 2-5pm at The Annexe of Old Bishopsbourne, St Francis College, Milton (opposite the tennis courts)

Our featured topic is poetry:
Beyond a glass darkly - expressing the inexpressible in poetry
Why do some poems ping, while other sing or zing?

In this interactive tutorial style session, respected university lecturer,
Dr. Stan Mellick raises the question of what a poem is or seeks to do; discusses an attempt to make a parallel in words about what can't be verbalised. He asks all participating members do some intriguing work beforehand and then present their solutions at the tutorial. (Please download tutorial notes and excerpts).

Despite his extensive CV,  Stan Mellick is relaxed,  easy to talk to and always ready to help. At least he tries, like us to write poetry! He has had poems published here and in USA. His most recent book is A Literary Companion to Queensland called Writers Footprints (2010).
Stan Mellick was invited in 1968 to join the staff of the English Department, University of Qld., received his doctorate in 1978, retired as a Senior Lecturer in 1985 and has been a UQ Hon. Research Consultant since 1986. He was on the Editorial Board of Australian Literary Studies 1978-2007. His work and writings have gained international recognition, particularly at the University of Le Havre, France, where there is a Stan Mellick Room. As an elder of the Qld. Presbyterian Church he served many years as its Convenor of the Board of Education, its Christian Education and its Social Services Committees. He was initiator and founding Chairman of the Restoration Trust of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Brisbane, where he was its Session Clerk. As well he served on and is a past Chairman and a Fellow of Grace College Council, University of Qld.
